Commissioners Public Email Correspondence

Running a county of half a million residents with an annual operating budget in the hundreds of millions of dollars requires a great deal of thought, discussion, input and expertise.

The Jefferson County Board of Commissioners (BCC) meets on most Tuesdays to formally conduct county business.  The Tuesday meetings, public hearings and staff briefings are among many meetings the three county commissioners have each week. All meetings attended by two or more commissioners are posted on a bulletin board outside the Hearing Room I in the Administration and Courts Facility 24-hours in advance of the meetings, as required by state statute.

To ensure that anyone interested in the meetings has notice and opportunity to attend, meetings dates and times are published on the county’s Web site (www.jeffco.us/bcc/bcc_T25_R35.htm), and meeting calendars are faxed or mailed to anyone who wishes to be on the distribution list.

Formal Tuesday BCC meetings and hearings are among many meetings necessary to conduct the business of such a large and diverse county.  Commissioners meet often with the Planning Commission, Board of Health, Open Space Advisory Committee and other of the county’s 19 advisory boards. They also meet with staff, citizen groups, Homeowner Association Officers and other governments and agencies; serve on boards like the Denver Regional Council of Governments and Urban Drainage district; hold town meetings; and participate in business and professional forums. Those meetings, attended by two or more commissioners, also are listed on the published calendar and open for citizens to attend.

Because of the county’s size and the breadth of issues that must be addressed, sometimes with urgency, it is not often prudent to wait until a Tuesday meeting. Therefore, the County Commissioners have initiated a way to communicate with each other through email, with the emails being made available to citizens immediately though the Web.

This email correspondence Web page is for commissioners’ discussions only. Citizens who wish to provide feedback on any of the issues raised in the emails should continue to send it through the normal email channels:

Commissioners also can be reached by phone at 303-271-8525.

The email correspondence Web page is an added way for the commissioners to communicate with each other on matters that need to be addressed quickly. The BCC’s formal resolutions and actions will continue to take place at posted public meetings. To view a schedule of those meetings, go to the Board of County Commissioners Meetings Web page at www.jeffco.us/bcc/bcc_T25_R35.htm.

Additionally, formal BCC Tuesday meetings and hearings, and certain additional meetings, can be watched on the county Web site through the Media On-Demand Web page at www.jeffco.us/bcchearings.htm.

NOTE: All posted county commissioner e-mails will be available online for 30 days. This page is typically available 24 hours a day, seven days a week except during maintenance activities. Email discussions may not be complete if the Commissioners’ discussions are continued in the public meeting forum.
