Volunteer Opportunities
Jefferson County Community Development partners with a variety of agencies throughout the County to provide benefits to those in need. Many of these agencies rely heavily on community volunteers. Below are some agencies with current opportunities; contact information is provided so you can reach the agencies directly for more information. This page will be updated regularly so please check back often.
Jefferson Center for Mental Health
Make a difference in the life of another senior--become a Senior Peer Counselor! Next training class begins Tuesday, March 9, 2010, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Training program consists of 24 hours, 3-hours per week for 8 weeks. Once trained, counselors meet on a weekly basis with seniors in their homes, at a Senior Center, or other convenient location. No formal, professional education is required, but applicants must be warm, caring, able to listen to others, and open to learning skills. Ongoing bi-weekly supervision by a licensed social worker is also provided. Applicants must be 55 years or older and able to provide own transportation. A one-year commitment to the program (3-5 hours per week) is required, as well as a background check.

Lutheran Family Services
Recruiting volunteers to serve on care teams to provide practical and social support to older adults. Volunteers will participate in activities such as grocery shopping, going out for lunch, playing cards, organizing paperwork or working in the yard.

Catholic Charities
Need receptionist to answers phones and set appointments for rental and utilities assistance; Intake Worker to provide intakes and assessments for clients who need food or financial assistance from the center; drivers to pick food up from SHARE, Food Bank of the Rockies or local parishes and deliver to the food pantry at the center; food bank clerk to work in the food pantry at the centers.

Colorado Housing Assistance Corporation (CHAC)
Handy-man (person) for small projects at the office; mentors to work with families who are 1 to 2 years away from home purchase.

Seniors' Resource Center
Need caller to make phone calls to businesses to obtain information for approaching businesses for donations; admin/clerical assistance; work with adults who are developmentally and/or physically disabled to achieve a second grade reading level or better; drivers to transport riders from their homes to personal and occasional medical appointments; provide in-home and on-site respite care relief for family caregivers.

Jefferson County Human Services - Community Assistance
Assist clients with the completion of the Medicaid application; assist clients with things like moving, yard-work and snow shoveling; transport clients to doctor appointments or other appointments; need volunteers to accept guardianships in Jefferson County.

Jefferson County Human Services - Child Support Enforcement
Need front desk receptionist; help with mail processing, scanning; welcome calls to customers; assist phlebotomist with genetic testing.

Family Tree, Inc.
Thrift store attendant; children's day care volunteer; advocates to work one-on-one with women in shelters; crisis line operators to answer incoming calls and provide referrals; supervised visitation monitors to sit in on court-ordered supervised visits between parents and their children; prepare meals and deliver to shelters; assist children in the shelters with their homework; clerical/admin assistance.
