Back to Substance Abuse Counseling Services Main >>

Evaluation
A comprehensive evaluation which includes an initial interview and testing instruments (SASSI, Socrates 7A and/or 7D, ASAP II, ASAM PPC-II, Carroll Depression Rating Scale, Mini Mental). The client is strongly encouraged to provide a urine screen as a supplement to the evaluation. This assessment process is utilized to determine which level of care is most appropriate for the client, to identify client/referral goals, and to determine the most effective way to achieve these goals. The evaluations are approximately three to five hours long, and are often completed over two sessions. Extensive reports are available upon request.

Generating Solutions
A two-session (six hours total), interactive, low-level intervention program which is designed to provide basic substance-related information for adolescents who have a minimal history of substance involvement or substance-related consequences. To successfully complete the program, participants must demonstrate an understanding of five core issues:

  • The differences between recreational and abusive use of substances
  • The physical effects of substance use
  • Stages of change
  • HIV- AIDS
  • The costs and benefits of substance use

Participants in the Generating Solutions program are provided with an opportunity to express their current knowledge of substance abuse related issues. In combination with the counselor's assessment of the participants' expressed knowledge, a particular focus is given to areas which may enhance the participants' general awareness of the impact that their substance use has in their lives. Each youth is required to have a parent or guardian attend the second session.

Brief Model Counseling
A treatment plan focused group. Clients can attend one to three times per week depending on their needs. Urine screens are a required component of this model. This program utilizes an interactive, treatment plan driven counseling process. The counselor evaluates the adolescent's ability to benefit from a minimal-structure format through the utilization of Motivational Interviewing and Solution Focused techniques. The clients' treatment goals and related issues create the topics for group. Treatment plans are initially designed for a short period of time. Clients are continuously reassessed, and the length of treatment is individualized to meet their needs. Clients are able to remain in the group as long as they are actively working on their treatment plans or if it is needed to address additional treatment needs.

Adolescent Case Management Services
The SACP counselors collaborate with community resources to provide the optimal level of intervention, allowing the counselor to act as a liaison with schools, courts, and human service agencies.

Family Case Management
Family case management services are available for adolescents who are actively attending our groups. This service uses a Solution-Focused approach designed to support and strengthen the client's work toward abstinence from substances.

Random Urine Screen Program
A specialized service available by direct agency referrals. All adolescents must have an active referral source and complete the intake process. Clients are assigned colors which correspond with the frequency of urine screens.
