Community Service Work Crews
Who Are We?
Under the supervision of the Program Manager, this unit consists of one Work Crew Supervisor and 4.5 Work Crew Leaders, all of whom have experience in team leading, designing, and supervising group projects. All are CPR and First Aid certified and qualified with Commercial Drivers Licenses. All have experience in construction trades and landscaping, 
as well as indoor and outdoor maintenance.
What Is Our Mission?
To provide Jefferson County government agencies with a labor force of individuals who have been court-ordered to perform useful public service, provide a constructive alternative to incarceration, and reduce County government costs.
Where Are We Located?
The office is located on the first floor of the Jefferson County Administration and Courts Building 100 Jefferson County Parkway, Suite 1050, Golden, CO, 80401. We also have crew assembly facilities in the Remington Building at 11011 W. 6th Avenue in Lakewood, CO 80215. On a daily basis, we supervise day work crews throughout Jefferson County and overnight on the weekends at the Outdoor Education Laboratory Schools of the R-1 School District or at Beaver Ranch Community Park in Conifer.
Who Is Our Customer?
Magistrates, County and District courts, juvenile and adult probation departments, District Attorney staff, defense attorneys, and the State Division of Youth Corrections refer juvenile offenders for work crew placement.
County agencies and the R-1 School District also request our helpful public service labor assistance.
We provide an opportunity for supervised useful public service labor in lieu of incarceration for adults and juveniles who are convicted in Jefferson County or have been convicted in other jurisdictions but reside in Jefferson County.
We also serve the citizens of Jefferson County by providing labor for County projects at no additional taxpayer expense.
What Services Or Products Do We Provide?
We build and maintain parks and trails, paint, remodel, move furniture, clean graffiti, set up offices, recycle paper, sweep, shovel, cut grass, rake leaves, plant trees, stuff envelopes, and update files. In addition, we maintain and improve the facilities of the 
Mt. Evans and Windy Peak Outdoor Education Laboratory Schools (R-1 School District) and the Beaver Ranch Community Park and Open Space.
How Are We Contacted? How Are Referrals Made?
County agencies with large jobs or crew needs can call to speak with our Work Crew Supervisor at 303-271-6513. We will visit your work site, survey the job, and help with the planning. We also have access to many types of tools, equipment, and vehicles that you may need.
Judges from the First Judicial District and the Municipal Courts in Jefferson and Gilpin Counties can sentence adult and juvenile offenders directly to us as an alternative to incarceration or detention. The First Judicial District Probation Department may also refer adults and juveniles directly to the Work Crew as part of the conditions of probation. The Colorado Division of Youth Corrections may also refer juveniles in their custody for Work Crew placement.
2009 Accomplishments
530 juveniles attended Residential Work Crews; $46,500 cost avoidance to R-1 schools and Jefferson County.
1,076 juveniles attended Non-Residential Work Crews; $62,666 cost avoidance to Jefferson County Government.
3,094 adults worked on Non-Residential Work Crews; $180,194 cost avoidance to Jefferson County Government.
