Re: Commissioners to Appoint Tim Kauffman as Jeffco Treasurer

Jeffco to Appoint New TreasurerThe Jefferson County Board of Commissioners has given the preliminary nod to Tim Kauffman to be the Jefferson County Treasurer, filling the position that will be vacated next week when current Treasurer Faye Griffin is sworn in as a County Commissioner.

Griffin has been treasurer since January 2007, when she was elected to the position after serving as the Jeffco Clerk and Recorder for eight years. Commissioners Kathy Hartman and Kevin McCasky discussed the appointment with Griffin at a public meeting January 6, and added the formal appointment of Kauffman to the Commissioners? agenda for Tuesday, January 13.

Griffin told the commissioners she had reviewed several resumes and was recommending Kauffman to be the next treasurer because of his strong financial background and history of leadership. He has been vice president of High Plains Bank in Lakewood and held management positions with FirsTier Bank and SunCorp Corporate Credit Union, both in Westminster; and Colorado Credit Union League in Arvada. He served on the Jefferson Economic Council Board of Directors and was a member of the Westminster City Council for seven years including four years as Westminster mayor pro tem.

Both McCasky and Hartman said they would defer to Griffin?s guidance on the appointment. Hartman said after having served with Kauffman on the Jefferson Economic Council Board of Directors, she felt very comfortable with the recommendation.

?There were several outstanding applicants for the position of treasurer,? McCasky said. ?It was a difficult decision and any one of them would serve the citizens well. Kauffman?s extensive banking experience and service as an elected official made him an excellent choice.?

Commissioner Jim Congrove had another commitment and was not present at the meeting.

Tim Kauffman has been a resident of Jefferson County since 1994. Born in Denver, he grew up in Iowa City, Iowa. He earned a bachelor?s degree in communications with a minor in business from Goshen College in Indiana before returning to Colorado. His wife, Kimberly, is a Boulder native. They have two children, Courtney and Tyler.

Jefferson County?s Swearing-In ceremony will be at 8:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 13. At that time, Faye Griffin will be sworn in as county commissioner; Kevin McCasky will be sworn-in for his second term as county commissioner; and Scott Storey will be sworn in for a second term as district attorney. Fourteen district and county court judges and magistrates also will be sworn in; and the new treasurer will be appointed and sworn-in. The ceremony will be held in Hearing Room One of the Jefferson County Administration and Courts Facility, 100 Jefferson County Parkway, Golden. The public is invited to attend.
