Climbing

Climbing Management Guide

Climbing continues to grow in popularity
for outdoor recreationclimb3 enthusiasts. Climbing is allowed in most of the Open Space Parks.  However, some resource features within our Open Space Parks are sensitive to climbing and in these areas, climbing is prohibited:

  • South Valley Park's red rock outcrops
  • White Ranch Park/Ralston Buttes sensitive area
  • Cathedral Spires, seasonal peregrine closures (Note: public access is not available to   
    Cathedral Spires.  Climbers must obtain permission from surrounding private landowners  to access the property or risk prosecution for trespassing.)
  • Mt. Lindo, seasonal raptor nesting closures
  • Clear Creek Canyon, some upper cliffs subject to seasonal raptor nesting closures
