About the 2010 Jefferson County Demographic Update
For the most part, the demographic data used in this update was derived from the 2000 US Census data. The 2000 US Census data is considered the baseline demographic data until the release of the 2010 US Census data occurs.
The most current data provided by the Colorado State Demography Office was also used to formulate the various charts and tables found within this demographic update. Data from the 2006 - 2008 US Census, American Community Survey (ACS), Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) Community Profiles, Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, Jefferson County Public Schools, The Jefferson Economic Council and a variety of other demographic sources were also utilized to construct the County’s demographic estimates and forecasts.
The source date used to construct the various charts and tables found in the 2010 Jefferson County Demographic Update will be noted.
April 1, 2010 is Census Day. The Census forms will be mailed out in March and should be returned by April 1, 2010. The Census is this most current count of everyone living in the United States, including all 50 States, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and American Samoa. This includes people of all ages, races, ethnic groups, both citizens and non-citizens.
The 2010 US Census will provide the next baseline for the County’s population totals and demographic data. However, that data will not be available until mid 2011.
